Mural by Anette Moi for Vågøy secondary school - communicating unity and diversity. The message is clear without pointing a finger on right or wrong or being too polarizing.
Using animals shows that animals have feelings, personality and character. They are all different species showing a camaraderie. A subtle little nod to us humans. The sum of the mural represents environmental protection, commitment, love, equality, friendship and freedom.
You can see the crocodile and the duck kiss without anyone thinking its strange, because love should be beautiful and acceptable in every way. The bear is the one carrying the rainbow ("The Russian Bear", a concept you may recognize from politics and history. He is the one carrying the rainbow, a paradox as they do not accept homosexuality in Russia). He who is injured and has "Climate change is real", he knows what he is talking about. The dolphin that is against fur but who does not have it herself. The rabbit cheering on the fish and against plastic, although the rabbit does not eat fish and which is not live in the sea. The bird with the important message, black lives matter.
The school yard should be a room of reflection, engagement and free love. Anette Moi has successfully managed to communicate all of these values.
Thanks to initiator, Tone Andal, for involving us in her long time street art project at Måløy. We are proud and happy to be a part of this important and lovely initiative.
